Right Man, Wrong Colour

It was inevitable that politicians would try to use the internet to promote themselves more this year than before, but even on the internet Jack Layton does a better job. The twitter accounts of the Liberal and Conservative leaders are so mundane and boring, meanwhile Jack Layton is holding online rally's almost every week. It just shows a different kind of thinking and someone who is in tune with where society is going.

9 Ball, Corner Pocket, Eyes Closed
Jack Layton is a down to earth charismatic guy. It seems everybody loves him, but he will never even come close to being Prime Minister and that's a shame. The guy really gets it. People talk about how they don't trust Stephen Harper and Michael Ignatieff and half the reason is because they seem so fake. The photo opportunities they do (i.e. Stephen Harper watching cricket with an east Indian family) just add to their problem. They look so out of place and when they try to do "fun things" that just do not match their personality. Layton on the other hand could be seen in a Toronto bar with the common folk celebrating with a beer when Canada won Olympic Gold in hockey in 2010 - he just seems like the common man.

It's too bad he is a New Democrat. The NDP has a lot of good ideas, but also a lot of wild ideas that will be almost impossible to fund, and people realize and are afraid of this. Most people are afraid of change, and while I am skeptical that they can deliver on most of these promises, I wouldn't mind giving them the chance, but not enough people agree with me. If Jack Layton were a Liberal, then I believe he would almost certainly be Prime Minister. But at the same time, good for him for sticking with his principals and sticking by the party he believes in, but he will never lead Canada as the head of the NDP.

So while this blog supported Jack Layton, I will still be voting Liberal - mostly as a strategic move to try to avoid the Conservatives taking the seat in my district, but also because I do agree with most of the Liberal platform.
